Nielsen wanted to express the irrepressible upsurge of the life-force, which keeps encountering obstacles and difficulties, but eventually wins through. Mena led a performance that made the journey’s twists and turns seem vivid, and the graceful almost Mozartian idyll of the 2nd movement was beautifully turned. [/citar]
